Hallways Today (Group 11)

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the hallways while you’re stuck in class? Our team of journalists interviewed Coppell students and teachers about their reasons for being out of class. As people roamed and ran between classes their reasons varied from “just because” to legitimate educational purposes.

Senior, Jenny Quinn spends her 3rd period listening to music in the pit. “I don’t have a class so I sit in the pit trying to enjoy My Chemical Romance,” she tells us while resting on the floor. This is part of her daily routine as a senior at CHS.

We followed Tyrone Matherson, a senior office aid, as he delivered messages from the counselors to students and teachers. Everyday Matherson plays the messenger boy in lieu of an academic course. “__”

Brycen Kettler never gave us a straight answer. After awkwardly asking if we wanted an honest answer, he simply replied that he was on his way to his next class even though it was the middle of the period. We saw him again about ten minutes later still roaming the hallway. He may have been skipping his class, but it cannot be said for sure, as he never admitted to it.

The multiple teachers we stopped to ask, including Coach Pointer and Mrs. Wolfe, were walking the halls with a purpose. Coach Pointer, a freshman biology teacher climber the freshman stairs to his class preparing to teach about karyotyping and genetics. Mrs. Wolfe, on the other hand, was putting up advertisements for her digital graphics & animation class.

One student, junior Alisha Punjwani, was out of class for a good reason. “I stepped out of class to call my mom to tell her my PSAT score,” says Punjwani. She was in economics when she received her scores and just couldn’t wait to get home to tell her.

We learned a lot about the student and teacher life here at Coppell High School while interviewing our sources. Although no students had enough courage to admit skipping classes, we found a handful of wanderlust teens. Now you know, Coppell, how your peers spend their class periods when they’re not in class.
